The Garden is open to the public from April to October on the following days:
Tuesday - Thursday - Saturday and Sunday from 9.00 to 19.00

 2009 Season:
Opens - Tuesday 31 March
Closes - Sunday 1 November
 2010 Season:
Opens - Thursday 1 April
Closes - Sunday 31 October

 

Additional opening days in 2010:
  • Monday 5 April - Easter Monday

Useful information:
  • Approximate area: 2 hectares or 5 acres.
  • Ticket offices close half an hour before closing time.
  • You are free to stay as long as you wish (we suggest you allow a minimum of 2 hours).
  • Free parking is available at the upper entrance, in Via Zaro.
  • The garden is readily accessible to the disabled; both the lower section and the upper one have toilets for the disabled.
  • Guided tours for groups in Italian and English, by prior arrangement.
  • Visitors will be given a free guide to the garden at the entrance with a list of the principal plants: a small guide book is available at a cost of € 1.00.

How to get here:
The Garden is in the comune of Forio, near the Spiaggia di San Francesco (beach) in the Zaro area.
  • Bus:
    From Ischia, Casamicciola and Lacco Ameno: CS bus. From Forio, CD bus or the Pegaso Giraforio bus B.
  • Maritime transport:
    Hydrofoils from Naples, Molo Beverello or Mergellina to Ischia Porto or Forio. Ferries from Naples or Pozzuoli to Ischia Porto or Casamicciola Terme.

Giardini La Mortella in collaboration with Platypus Itinerary offer schools the opportunity for a study visit with an open air workshop that will give students an understanding and appreciation of the island’s environmental heritage and natural beauty.  

  • For study visits, advance booking is necessary.
  • Visits are conducted by specialist guides who will illustrate the garden, as explained in the attached programme: PDF .
  • The entry fee to the garden will be € 3.00 per student.
  • Cost of the guided visit – € 60.00 per guide (one guide for each class).
  • The visit will last about 3 hours; an informative illustrated booklet will be provided, as well as the materials necessary to complete the activities described in the programme.
  • Visits will take place on: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • The difficulty of the route is Very Low; we do however suggest comfortable clothing and footwear.
  • You will need a rucksack with a pen, a pencil and two colouring pens.
  • Transfer by private bus, from any point on the island to La Mortella and vice versa, costs €6.00 per person.
