History of Gardens
La Mortella Gardens were created in 1958 by Lady Susana Walton , the wife of Argentine origin of the English composer Sir William Walton . Today La Mortella belongs to Fondazione William Walton La Mortella, that manages the garden, opens it to the public, takes care of the administration , and is in charge of cultural activities.
Susana Walton
Was born in Argentina and received the type of education held to be appropriate for a girl of her social class. She learned to speak English before Spanish, her native tongue, and it was expected that she would become engaged and, after a suitable number of months, marry a young Argentinian of an equal status.
Sir William Walton
Is considered as one of the greatest English composers of the twentieth century. A determining factor in the development of his career was the patronage of the eccentric Sitwell family (the siblings Edith, Osbert and Sacheverell) who took him under their wing in 1919 when he left Oxford.

Music activities
During the year there are three different concert seasons: in Spring and in Autumn the chamber music recitals are held on Saturdays and Sundays in the indoor Recital Hall; in Summer the Festival of Youth Orchestras with symphonic concerts held every Thursday evening in the Greek Theatre.

I Brass Funkeys sono stati degli apripista per una nuova generazione di jazz Brass Bands nel Regno Unito. Negli anni il collettivo di 9 musicisti ha creato un suono unico che riflette le loro personalità forti e gusti eclettici ed individuali, rendendo omaggio allo stesso tempo alle loro radici nella musica di New Orleans e i suoi famosi ensembles di ottoni. I Brass Funkeys si sono perfezionati in concerti nei festival e nei clubs oltre Manica e in Europa, sia esplorando sempre nuovi indirizzi musicali che raffinando il proprio stile di show dal vivo, accattivante, scoppiettante di idee nuove e di energia trascinante. Suoneranno un insieme di musiche tradizionali dal repertorio per le celebri Brass Bands di New Orleans e composizioni originali scritte da membri del ensemble.
