During the year there are three different concert seasons: in Spring and in Autumn the chamber music recitals are held on Saturdays and Sundays in the indoor Recital Hall; in Summer the Festival of Youth Orchestras with symphonic concerts held every Thursday evening in the Greek Theatre. These concerts are always performed by young musicians (maximum age 32), following the express wishes of William Walton that La Mortella should help young talented musicians to spread their wings.

  • The chamber music season is staged in collaboration with the Conservatories of Santa Cecilia (Rome) and San Pietro a Maiella (Naples), the Music School of Fiesole and the Cimarosa Conservatory of Avellino; additionally, the Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia, USA) and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama collaborate in these programmes. These schools choose their best students and send them to Ischia to perform a concert. The fundamental idea behind this programme (which is now in its tenth year) is that young musicians should find it a stimulating and inspiring opportunity to be faced with an informed and attentive audience. At the same time their names start to circulate and they become known. Along with the students selected from these schools, the ‘Fondazione William Walton e La Mortella’ also invites the winner of the William Walton scholarship to perform and, according to the season, those young musicians who have won first prize in prestigious music competitions.
  • The Festival of Youth Orchestras. The season of symphonic music at the Greek Theatre, like the chamber music season, takes place in collaboration with national and international music schools and institutions.
