La Mortella Gardens has reopened for the 2026 season, celebrating the centenary of Lady Walton.
On Thursday, April 2, 2026, the La Mortella Gardens will reopen to the public. It will be a special start to the season, as this year marks the centenary of the birth of Lady Susana Walton (born in Buenos Aires on August 30, 1926, and passed away in Ischia on March 21, 2010). To her, the charismatic creator of La Mortella, the Walton Foundation will dedicate a major commemorative project, a full year of events in Italy and England, dedicated to the memory, art, and cultural legacy of a woman who left her mark on both the worlds of nature and music.
Among the most significant initiatives to be hosted in the garden is the "The Intuition of Love" tour. Designed and curated by Mariangela Catuogno, this itinerary will recount the genesis of La Mortella through a series of inscriptions featuring quotes from Susana, Russell Page, and Luis Barragan, the garden's inspirations. To tell the story of Lady Walton, we chose to return to the moment of the original intuition: the decision to transform the harsh and inhospitable lava of Zaro, the area on which La Mortella stands, into a space of harmony, delight, and love. An idea of Nature, evoked by the four elements — Water, Fire, Earth, and Air — which, intertwining, generate matter and transform it into a garden thanks to the vital breath of Venus-Susana, the genius loci of the La Mortella Gardens.
Starting April 2nd, the La Mortella Gardens will be open on the usual Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. A first special opening is already planned for Monday, April 6th, during the long Easter weekend.

Musical and cultural events are also underway
With the reopening to the public, the Incontri Musicali concerts, dedicated to chamber music and directed by Lina Tufano, will also resume. Each weekend, they will feature performances by young virtuosos from the most prestigious Italian and international music schools. The first concert is scheduled for Saturday, April 4th and Sunday, April 5th, with the Duo F. Navelli - G. Loperfido performing a piano four-hand program featuring music by Mozart, Walton, and Rachmaninoff. The performance is scheduled for 5:00 pm in the Recital Hall of the Giardini la Mortella.
The summer symphonic season at the Teatro Greco, featuring youth ensembles and orchestras, directed by Caroline Howard, has been confirmed. This year, it will begin on Thursday, June 25th, with an inaugural concert honoring local groups. Taking the stage on the opening night will be the "Città di Procida" Band, directed by Maestro Francesco Trio and highly regarded internationally for the talent of its young musicians.
Finally, starting in April, the cultural meetings of "Kepos - Landscapes and Archaeology" will return, a series of historical and scientific conferences coordinated by Mariangela Catuogno. In keeping with the centenary celebrations, this year's Kepos will focus primarily on the History of Gardens, although the usual archaeological meetings will also be held.
