To mark the centenary of the birth of Susana Gil Passo, Lady Walton, La Mortella Gardens celebrate her with an evening dedicated to music and tango.

Born in Buenos Aires in August 1926, Susana spent her early years in Argentina before life took her to Europe. Tango for Susana pays tribute to her Argentine origins and to her passionate and vibrant temperament, with a milonga under the stars in the evocative setting of the Greek Theatre at the La Mortella Gardens.

The evening will open with live music from the Hyperion Ensemble, founded in 1992 and specialising in tango, from the traditional repertoire to the compositions of Astor Piazzolla. In more than thirty years of activity, the ensemble has taken part in over 1,200 concerts and performances at major festivals and theatres throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas, collaborating with celebrated bandoneon players and dancers and performing in the historic milongas of Buenos Aires.

The programme will explore the many different facets of tango, with works by Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, Julián Plaza and Enrique Santos Discépolo, alongside excursions into film music and Italian song.

At the end of the concert, the milonga will continue with music selected by TDJ Lavinia Livi, as we celebrate together the memory of a woman who knew how to dream, who had an inexhaustible zest for life and who, through her gardens overflowing with beauty, left us an invaluable treasure.

Everyone is invited, from experienced dancers to those who simply love tango, to enjoy the rhythm and atmosphere on the terraces overlooking the sea at the La Mortella Gardens.

Admission to the concert is free, subject to availability.

Advance booking is, however, required.
