CONCERT SEASON PRESENTATION
Incontri Musicali - Autumn 2026
(chamber music concerts)

On Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th, after the summer break, the William Walton Foundation's chamber music concerts will resume in the Recital Hall of the La Mortella Gardens, under the artistic direction of Lina Tufano.

The autumn season is part of the celebrations for the centenary of the birth of Lady Susana Walton, founder and creative soul of the La Mortella Gardens. Originally conceived as a place of reflection and inspiration for her husband, the English composer Sir William Walton, after his passing, the Gardens were transformed by Susana into a vibrant cultural center dedicated to music and, in particular, to the support of young talent. This is a mission that the William Walton Foundation and La Mortella continues today, offering young musicians from around the world training opportunities and the chance to perform publicly and take the first steps in their concert careers.

In keeping with this legacy, the Foundation has invited all the young musicians featured in the autumn season to dedicate a piece to Lady Walton's memory, an invitation that the performers accepted with great enthusiasm.

The calendar will continue to pursue what has always been one of the Foundation's primary goals: offering performance opportunities and promoting exceptionally talented young performers, representatives of the new generation of musicians, and winners of important national and international competitions.

This year, some of the season's events will be held in collaboration with the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, with young musicians invited to perform both in Rome's Sala Casella and in Ischia's Giardini La Mortella.

The talents we will be able to hear at La Mortella come from some of the most prestigious Italian and international musical institutions, including the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, the Keyboard Charitable Trust, and the Royal College of Music in London, as well as other important institutions with which the Walton Foundation has collaborated for many years.

The opening concerts on September 5th and 6th will be performed by the Liszt Piano Trio, consisting of violinist Elia Chiesa, cellist Luigi Visco, and pianist Christian De Luca, all winners of major international competitions. The following weekend will feature the young pianist Daniele Martinelli, winner of the prestigious 2025 Venice Prize and numerous international competitions. Also in September, we will be able to hear the duo of cellist Monica Righi and pianist Ivan Maliboshka, recent winner of first prize at the "Rospigliosi" International Competition, and the promising Italian-Albanian pianist Ruben Xhaferi, just twenty-one, winner of numerous first prizes and currently completing his advanced studies with Maestro Benedetto Lupo at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

The first weekend of October will feature another young Italian pianist, Greta Lobefaro, who has already earned acclaim nationally and internationally. The following weekend, she will present a rather unusual ensemble: American double bassist Levi Andreassen and British pianist Thomas Luke will perform a virtuoso program of particular musical interest. The season will continue with the duo of violinist Letizia Gullino and pianist Luca Guido Troncarelli, who have already performed at important Italian and international concert seasons. In the concerts on October 24th and 25th, we will also be able to hear the Stauffer Cello Quartet, composed of four young Italian cellists who have completed advanced training at the Stauffer Academy. They will perform a particularly varied and original program.

The closing performance of the Walton Foundation's 2026 concert season, on the weekend between October and November, will be the violin and piano duo of Clara Scholtes and Irene Novi. These final concerts will conclude a particularly rich year of events and initiatives dedicated to the memory and cultural legacy of Lady Walton: an extraordinary and visionary woman, to whose foresight and determination we owe not only the creation of one of the most beautiful gardens in the world, but also the establishment of the William Walton Foundation, which she founded to support young musicians and keep alive the artistic legacy of the great composer Sir William Walton, her companion and the love of her life.

The concerts on Saturday and Sunday will be held at 5:00 PM in the Recital Hall.
