The William Walton Foundation's musical series, featuring chamber music concerts under the artistic direction of Lina Tufano, will begin on April 4-5, Easter weekend. This is a special year for us, as we commemorate 100 years since the birth of Lady Walton, and it will be a year filled with events and initiatives dedicated to the memory and cultural legacy of this extraordinary lady.
Giulia Loperfido, born in Rome in 2000, studied at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome, graduating with honors and third prize at the Premio Venezia, an award reserved for the best graduates. Winner of first prizes in national and international competitions, in 2019 she won the Campus delle Arti Award. As a violin duo, she won the Third Prize at the Sion "A Feast of Duos" competition, the First Prize at the Sardinia International Competition, and with the Eidos Trio, she won the "AMUR for New Talents" competition, the "Città di Giussano" competition, and the "Trio Pakosky" scholarship in Piacenza. She has performed as a soloist and in chamber music groups at numerous festivals in Italy and abroad. She specialized at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome with B. Lupo and since 2024 has been studying at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne with C. Martinez-Mehner and A. Frölich.
Francesco Navelli, born in 2003, graduated with honors and honorable mention from the Conservatory of Salerno, continuing his advanced studies with renowned maestros: L. Margarius at the Accademia di Imola, B. Lupo at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia. He is supported by the Lieven Foundation of Vienna, which supports his international artistic career. He has won numerous national and international competitions, including third prize at the prestigious "Città di Cantù" International Competition for Piano and Orchestra. He has been awarded scholarships by the Rotary Club of Imola and Siena at the Accademia Chigiana, and the "Matilde Neri Sclavo" scholarship.
He has performed for major theaters and associations in Italy and abroad (Milan, Società del Quartetto, Naples Teatro San Carlo, Teatro Italia in Istanbul, Steinway Hall and Bösendorfer Hall in Vienna, Tirana Opera House, Kammersaal of the Estonian Academy in Tallinn, and the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo). He has performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Georgian State Orchestra and the Italian Youth Orchestra conducted by Daniele Rustioni. In 2026, he performed Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with The Villages Philharmonic Orchestra in Florida. He has also performed chamber music with great success alongside his solo work.
The Loperfido-Navelli duo will perform music by Mozart, Rachmaninov and, in homage to Lady Walton on the centenary of her birth, a selection of pieces from Facade by William Walton transcribed for piano 4 hands: Facade is the youthful composition that gave international fame to the English musician and of which Lady Walton was an extraordinary interpreter as narrator.
