Pianist Herman Med Cerisha will headline the concerts next weekend, April 11-12, at the Giardini La Mortella.

Herman, 20, was born in Bari. At just 8, he was admitted to the George Enescu National College of Music in Bucharest, Romania, where he studied with Elisa Barzescu. In 2020, thanks to a scholarship, he moved to London to study at the Purcell School, where in 2021 he was awarded the Bechstein Scholar Award, the best student of the year. Since 2024, thanks to another scholarship, he has attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he continues his training with Florian Mitrea. Herman has won over 40 prizes in international competitions, including awards at the Chopin Junior Competition, the Berman Competition, the Orbetello Competition, and the Concorso Pianisti i Ri in Kosovo. He has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Pristina Philharmonic and the Arad Philharmonic (Romania). He has participated in masterclasses with internationally renowned pianists (B. Petrushansky, D. Alexeev, N. Ogawa, L. Margarius, and F. Scala at the International Academy of Imola). He has performed in prestigious concert halls such as Wigmore Hall, St. James Piccadilly, Cadogan Hall, Villa Torlonia in Rome, the Romanian Athenaeum, and the Svetlanov Hall in Moscow. In 2025, he was selected as a Talent Unlimited Artist, an organization that supports his artistic development.

The program that Herman Med Cerisha will offer to audiences at La Mortella features some of the greatest masterpieces of the piano repertoire, including the celebrated Sonata Op. 53 by Ludwig van Beethoven, called Waldstein, after the count, his friend and protector, to whom it was dedicated: in this monumental sonata, a true compendium of the composer's formal conquests, Beethoven immeasurably expands the potential of the instrument and of piano technique.
