Performances by extraordinary young pianists continue at the Recital Hall at Giardini la Mortella: next weekend, May 9-10, Nikita Burzanitsa, a young Ukrainian pianist, will perform.

Born into a musical family in Donetsk, Ukraine, and currently living in London, supported by the Keyboard Charitable Trust, Nikita demonstrated exceptional talent from an early age. He began his studies in his homeland under the guidance of the renowned Professor Natalia Chesnokova, and then moved to London, thanks to a scholarship, to continue his studies with Dmitri Alexeev at the Royal College of Music. He has won over 30 first prizes in piano competitions, including the Kendall Taylor Beethoven Competition, the BPSE Senior Intercollegiate Piano Competition and the Sheepdrove Piano Competition (UK), the ISCART International Music Competition (Switzerland), the Moscow International Music Competition (Russia), the Nouvelles Etoiles International Competition (Paris, France), and many others. He has given solo and orchestral recitals throughout Europe.

The programs that Nikita Burzanitsa will perform for audiences at La Mortella include some of the most celebrated and virtuosic pieces in the piano repertoire, including Variations on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 35 by Johannes Brahms, composed in 1863. A masterpiece of great virtuosic commitment for the performer, on a theme from one of Paganini's Caprices for solo violin, in these very famous variations Brahms never loses sight of the expressive needs, never gives in to the arid pleasure of pure virtuosity.
