This coming weekend, October 3–4, the young pianist Greta Lobefaro will perform in the Recital Hall at Giardini La Mortella as part of the concert series organized in collaboration with the Accademia Filarmonica Romana.
Born in 2001, Greta graduated in piano with honors and a special mention under the guidance of G. Valente at the Bari Conservatory. She subsequently studied at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome with B. Lupo and at the Accademia di Imola with E. Pace and I. Fliter; she is currently pursuing an advanced chamber music course at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia with I. Rabaglia. She has won numerous national and international competitions (including the International Chopin Piano Competition in Szafarnia, the Steinway Italia Piano Competition, and the "N. Rota" Competition in Brindisi) and placed third in the 2018 Premio Venezia and the "Arcangelo Speranza" competition in Taranto. She has also received the "Sigismund Thalberg" special prize in Naples and awards at the Schumann Prize, the "G. Rospigliosi" International Piano Competition, and the 2024 Massarosa International Competition. Additionally, she was a finalist at the 2022 Schimmel Competition in Braunschweig, Germany.
She has performed in prestigious venues across Italy and in Germany, Switzerland, Ukraine, Austria, Spain, Russia, Romania, South Africa, and France, and has appeared as a soloist with the "Gavrilii" Philharmonic Orchestra of Vologda, Russia. A Yamaha Artist, she has recorded CDs for Odradek Records and 2R Digital Classic. She teaches piano practice and sight-reading at the "F. Cilea" Conservatory in Reggio Calabria and is a permanent member of the Hermes Trio. The program Greta Lobefaro will present at La Mortella is entirely dedicated to French music, featuring compositions by Rameau and Ravel; specifically, we will hear Maurice Ravel’s *Miroirs*. Composed in 1905, *Miroirs* represents a pinnacle of Ravel’s output; each piece bears a title, and together they form a magnificent sonic universe—"a splendid collection of images, poetic and full of dreams...".
