The upcoming weekend of concerts at Giardini La Mortella, held in collaboration with the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, will feature a duo consisting of violinist Letizia Gullino and pianist Luca Guido Troncarelli.
Letizia Gullino (born 2004) performs regularly both in Italy and abroad. Her recent engagements include a return to the Edinburgh International Film Festival, as well as debuts at the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo, the Paganini Genova Festival, and London’s Southbank Centre. A student of A. Paraschiv, D. Gay, S. Accardo, S. Lamberto, and S. Marcovici, she graduated from the Turin Conservatory with honors and a special mention. She has won several significant national and international competitions - including the Marin International Competition, the Premio Crescendo in Florence, the Premio delle Arti, and the Guglielmo Award - and took third prize at the prestigious Valsesia International Competition.
Luca Guido Troncarelli (born 2001) began his piano studies with C. Voghera at the Turin Conservatory, where he graduated with honors and a special mention. He has participated in masterclasses with J. Achúcarro, A. Madzar, and B. Lupo, and since 2021, he has been refining his craft under the guidance of G. Carcano. A winner of numerous national and international piano competitions - such as the “J. S. Bach” Competition in Sestri Levante, the “Città di Giussano,” the Orbetello International Piano Competition, and the “Città di Piove di Sacco” - he is active both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. He also holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Turin.
The Gullino-Troncarelli Duo was formed in Turin in 2020. In 2022, the duo won the Premio Nazionale delle Arti and the Giovanni Guglielmo Award. In 2025, the ensemble received the Casa Musicale del Rio Prize and was named the best Italian ensemble at the Nicosia Award. They have performed in prestigious theaters and concert halls both in Italy - including the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Unione Musicale di Torino, Lingotto Musica, Società Umanitaria di Milano, and Amici dell'Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai - and abroad, in countries such as China and Japan.
The program that the Gullino-Troncarelli duo will present at La Mortella features significant works from 20th-century European music. Notably, it includes Igor Stravinsky’s “Suite Italienne” - the great Russian composer’s homage to Neapolitan music by Pergolesi and other 18th-century composers, reimagined through a modern harmonic language. Composed in 1933, the “Suite Italienne” is considered a quintessential example of Stravinsky’s Neoclassicism.
